The world's capital: going global; in bid to land ABN, Barclays taps funding from China, Singapore

Article Abstract:

China Development Bank has agreed to invest a minimum of 2.2 bil euro up to 9.8 bil euro for a 3.1% to 8% stake respectively in UK bank Barclays PLC should Barclays prove successful in its bid for Netherlands bank ABN Amro Holding N.V. An 8% stake would make China Development Bank the largest shareholder. The agreement highlights the role of global capital in such deals.

Lloyds TSB to sell Abbey Life unit

Article Abstract:

The Abbey Life Group PLC division of Lloyds TSB Group PLC will be put up for sale. The unit's policies are currently worth approximately $2 bil. Swiss Reinsurance Co. and Resolution PLC are said to be among the firms interested.
