EU executive to inspect Deutsche Post

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has announced it will launch a new antitrust investigation into Deutsche Post following a 1994 complaint filed by United Parcel Service. The investigation, which will look into Germany's former postal monopoly's controversial use of state aid, comes just as Deutsche Post is planning its initial public offering. The European Commission also is beginning investigations over illegal state aid for public television in France and Italy. The EU has closed its investigation of Italy's Alitalia.
