EU maps new plan to overhaul patents

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has relaunched its plans to develop a common patent system aimed at simplifying legal procedures and reducing costs for the 27-nation bloc. Member countries, however, are at odds regarding whether a common, nation-based legal framework is sufficient, or if a fully integrated process is needed, overseen by a newly created EU authority.

EU bans Indonesian jets: country's 51 airlines are deemed unsafe; Angola crash kills 5

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has banned all of Indonesia's 51 airlines from European Union airspace because of safety concerns, beginning July 6, 2007. Although none of the carriers at present flies to the EU, the ban brings attention to transit routes within Indonesia, a popular tourist destination for Europeans.

EU Favors Voluntary Code for Funds

Article Abstract:

The European Commission supports voluntary compliance to promote transparency in sovereign wealth fund operations. While the Commission seeks to encourage foreign investment, it also seeks to allay concerns that the state-owned investment vehicles can be used to obtain strategic control.
