EU raps MasterCard over fees

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has required MasterCard International Inc. to drop specific fees it currently applies to debit- and credit-card transactions, stating that MasterCard's actions constitute cartel behavior. The Commission has given MasterCard six months to comply, after which the credit card firm will face fines up to $350,000 per day. MasterCard is appealing the directive.

MasterCard's key sponsorship save: return of World Cup rights gives network big platform to win over Latin America

Article Abstract:

A New York federal district court judge has ruled that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) must give a sponsorship deal for Latin America to MasterC ard International Inc., even though it al ready had a contract with Visa International. FIFA plans to appeal the ruling.

MasterCard sues Visa over debit-issuer fees

Article Abstract:

MasterCard International Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Visa USA Inc. over the use of allegedly coercive tactics in preventing some of the former's member banks from leaving Visa to join rival organizations. MasterCard filed the suit in the U.S. District Court in New York.
