Editorial: Europan: Time to combat the UK's risk-averse culture

Article Abstract:

There was enthusiasm about 3 architectural schemes in the UK at the Europan competition in 2001, but none of the schemes is any closer to reality in 2003. The UK decided not to place any architectural sites in the competition in 2003. It was suggested that UK architects do not to take risks, and there should be efforts made to combat that attitude.

editorial: Serpentine pavilion patronage: inspired or simply tired?

Article Abstract:

The Serpentine pavilion has asked architect Oscar Niemeyer to design structures utilized for summer parties. However, the choice would seem to be nostalgic because Niemeyer is mainly known for his work in the past and not his recent work. There are concerns whether Niemeyer would be able to deliver a noteworthy piece of work for the pavilion.
