Educational addition with a sense of purpose

Article Abstract:

Architectural practice W S Atkins Oxford of Oxford, England, designed new facilities for the Cheney School in Oxford to solve problems on the site that arose from the previous haphazard redevelopment projects. The 1.4 million pounds sterling project comprised a three-storey teaching block and a single-storey sixth form building incorporating snack bar facilities, a social area and private study rooms. The buildings are linked by a double-height foyer with a glass-block, curving exterior wall. A new central square and laboratory block are also planned.

The importance of being Erno

Article Abstract:

Erno Goldfinger's house at 2 Willow Road, Hampstead, London, is now owned by the National Trust, and is soon to open to the public following repairs and refurbishment by Avanti Architects. The house has been altered in various ways since it was designed in 1937, and Avanti felt that it should not be returned to its original state, as the alterations reflected Goldfinger's own views. Care has been taken to ensure that it comes across as a home, rather than a museum.
