In Taiwan, air travelers are spoiled for choice

Article Abstract:

Taiwan's airline industry is highly competitive as evidenced by the presence of nine airlines whose fares would suddenly dip as takeoff time nears. The deregulation of the industry in 1987 was a big factor in ensuring low fares, which was a development that encouraged most of the country's 21 million inhabitants to become air travelers. In fact, no other air route in the world can top that between Taipei and Kaohsiung in terms of number of return flights.

Thai Airways sparks concern by picking Siripong for top job

Article Abstract:

Many Thai Airways International employees and investors have expressed concern over the company's decision to appoint Thai Air Force chief Siripong Thongyai as its new chairman. They are afraid that Siripong, the first military officer to be appointed to the position, will bring the company back under the influence of the military. Most foreign investors do not view miltiary officers as ideal candidates for fostering changes in the airline.
