Electronics exports play key part in region's recoveries

Article Abstract:

The strong demand for electronics products has been at the forefront of Asia's economic recovery but observers believe this may not last. Among the countries that benefit greatly from electronics exports are South Korea, Taiwan and to a lesser degree, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. However, fears of a downturn are in the air after Singapore's electronics exports grew by less than 1% in Jun 1999. This could be attributed to fears of computer chaos by the year 2000. Still, other analysts are optimistic because of increased outsourcing by multinational semiconductor firms.
