Electronics giant seeks a cure in health care: fleeing chips and TVs, Philips makes big bet on aging consumers

Article Abstract:

Dutch consumer electronics firm Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. is now targeting the growing health-related services business, a process that began with its acquisition of US-based Lifeline Systems Inc. for $750 mil. The acquisition enabled Philips to offer clients access to a call center to report medical emergencies and obtain answers to health questions on topics such as medications.

Philips purchase to boost home health-care goal

Article Abstract:

US medical equipment maker Respironics Inc. will be bought by Dutch firm Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. for $5.16 bil, or $66 per share, which represents a 24% premium. The deal will provide Philips with new product categories in the health care market.
