Energy firms, wiser now, cool down on Vietnam

Article Abstract:

Many foreign investors begin to doubt the profitability of ventures in Vietnam's energy industry due to low oil yields and the indecisiveness of local authorities regarding the of project contracts. A major source of frustration is state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Corp.'s demands for low-cost projects that leave investors no room to make profits. Only a few projects are making headway, including Broken Hill Proprietary Co.'s proposal to build a power plant for the Nam Con Son gas pipeline and Conoco Inc.'s proposal to build a gas processing plant.
