Article Abstract:

Finland's Enso and Thailand's Advance Agro have signed an agreement on Enso buying a fifth of Advance Agro by subscribing 100mn of the new shares of Advance Agro for Fmk 440mn (US$ 81mn). The Boards of the companies still have to accept the deal. With the deal StoraEnso will become the second largest producer of fine paper in the world. According to Enso, after a transition period Enso will receive the sole right to the worldwide marketing and sales outside Thailand of Advance Agro's pulp and paper. Additionally, Enso will deliver long-fibred pulp to Thailand. The benefits of the cooperation are significant with synergy benefits of Fmk 20-50mn/yr. The cooperation will show in the company's profit within approx. 3 years. According to Enso, Advance Agro fulfills Enso's environmental criteria. According to Advance Agro, the price Enso pays is low. However, the deal is beneficial to Advance Agro as they need the money and the experience of StoraEnso. The main production plant of Advance Agro includes two pulp mills, two paper machines, a coating line and a finishing room. The market value of Advance Agro is approx. Fmk 1.7bn in the Thailand Stock Exchange.

Article Abstract:

In Finland, Helsinki Telephone has bought 20.5% of the shares of Keski-Suomen Puhelin (KSP) for FIM 79.3mn (USD 16mn). The shares correspond to 17.2% of the KSP voting power. According to KSP, due to the deal they have great opportunities to cooperate with a company which is large enough and which knows the field. According to Helsinki Telephone, the company will use their "considerable influence" in KSP. Helsinki Telephone is still interested in local telecom companies.

Finnish Helsinki Telephone will acquire 25.1% of German Citykom Munster teleoperator. The company delivers telephone, data and Internet services to households and companies in and around Munster. The company aims at a turnover of FIM 150mn (USD 27mn) within 5 years. The company has been founded in 1996. The German company will be a holding company of Helsinki Telephone. Helsinki Telephone is currently negotiating on cooperation with some 5 German teleoperators.
