Epcos has a new plant in Sumperk

Article Abstract:

Epcos CR (Sumperk, Czech Republic), ferrite core manufacturer, should produce more than 100 mil ferrite cores at its new plant in Sumperk in 2001. The plant will have 500 employees in 2001. The number should increase to 800 persons gradually. The total investments in the construction of the plant will be EUR 45 mil, CEK 1.561 bil, and will be covered by the multinational company Epcos, which associates Epcos CR. Epcos, which has stakes held by Siemens (Germany) and Matsushita (Japan), plans to invest another EUR 30 mil, CEK 1.04 bil, in Sumperk by 2002. The investments will be used mainly for the purchase of modern technology. Epcos invested EUR 15 mil, CEK 520.2 mil, in Sumperk till 2000. Epcos CR will supply ferrite cores to European and other consumers.

Brno fights for a new opportunity

Article Abstract:

Czech Republic: The city of Brno started to build a rounded-off industrial zone in Brno-Cernovicka Planina in 2000. The industrial zone should attract new investors. The financial costs on the building of the zone with an area of about 200 ha including connection to motorway and railway networks will be about CEK 3.3 bil. The Czech government has promised to support the project. The city of Brno will invest CEK 1.3 bil in the setting up of the infrastructure of the zone. The industrial zone should include companies focused on electronic equipment, among others. The first investor in the zone is Flextronics International (FI) (US). FI built the first production hall in the zone during Jun-Nov 2000.

ROXXE cd protection against pirates

Article Abstract:

Gramofonove zavody (GZ) (Lodenice, Czech Republic), CD-ROM manufacturer, has participated in the development of a protective system against the illegal copying of compact discs. The firm co-operated with Electronic Publishing Association LLC (EPA LLC) in the project. The protective system ROXXE CD Protection is the combination of software supplied by EPA LLC and special production technology developed at GZ. EPA LLC integrated the system ROXXE CD Protection into its products from the edition LangMaster and has tested it all over the world. Several domestic and foreign firms including Microsoft (US) have shown an interest in the protective system.
