The Greek banking system: reanalysis of performance

Article Abstract:

A new multivariate analysis method, Co-plot, was used to evaluate the performance of 16 Greek commercial banks. This new method provides performance information on the banks which differs from the performance data provided by a study of these banks utilizing the ordinal regression analysis method. The new method shows a greater correlation between the determined attributes and the banks' performance with respect to these attributes.

Estimating input-specific technical inefficiency: the case of the Tunisian banking industry

Article Abstract:

An econometric model allowing the estimation of the input-specific technical inefficiency/efficiency is proposed. It can be used on any flexible functional form where technical inefficiency is unique to a firm and is time-variant. The technical inefficiency of labor and capital inputs are found to decrease over time. Labor is more inefficiently applied than capital input banks.

Efficiency analysis in banking firms: an international comparison

Article Abstract:

The Spanish banking system is analyzed in terms of productivity, efficiency and technological differences using a non-parametric approach. Productive changes are estimated through Malmquist indexes, which use the notion of distance function, so that a former estimation of the carrier is required. The estimation is performed via data envelopment analysis. Data indicate scale inefficiencies in the Austrian, German and US banking systems. Belgium, France and Spain apparently have the most efficient banking systems.
