Using neural networks and cognitive mapping in scenario analysis: the case of Turkey's inflation dynamics

Article Abstract:

A significant feature of strategy making is the development of alternative futures/scenarios to efficiently handle the long-term uncertainties surrounding organizations. A revised extended anomaly relaxation (REFAR) model proposes multimethodology in utilizing varied techniques and approaches such as cognitive mapping, artificial neural networks, cluster analysis and self organizing maps. REFAR model removes the basic drawbacks of extended anomaly relaxation (EFAR) process and improving its efficiency. The REFAR model is applied to estimate the future value of Turkey's inflation rate. Case studies to test the validity of the REFAR model are examined.
