Article Abstract:

Cascadia as an economic region is a dream. With a projected GNP of $250b , it embraces Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana plus British Columbia and Alberta. The area does have its detractors. Crime, alienated youth and dependency on a few industries or corporations such as Boeing, are cited as weaknesses.

State and market revisited: how interventionist should third-world governments be?

Article Abstract:

Advocates of either intervention or free markets in Third-World economies are beginning see the other side's points. A reply to a review of the book 'States or Markets?' defines 'new interventionism' as government actions to merely guide the market, and uses Taiwan as a successful example.

Industrial cleaning: dry-ice rice

Waste Minimization and Containment Services Inc (WMC) has developed an industrial cleaning method that uses remote-controlled robots that emit pressurized carbon dioxide pellets. The US Energy Dept has granted WMC a nuclear waste removal contract.
