European unlock encryption market, thanks to U.S. rules

Article Abstract:

The software encryption industry in Europe receives good news as the US government loosened its regulation as to its export of encryption technology. The US government placed strict rules on such matter due to fears that international criminals would send coded messages that even the CIA and FBI cannot decipher. The revised rule will allow the export, with a license, of 128-bit encryption, which is virtually unbreakable, to financial institutions abroad, but others can only avail of 40-bit encryption, which can be deciphered by a powerful computers. Export of 56-bit technology will also be allowed, but the US government will require the buyers to provide the keys to unlock their clients' data.
