Ex-Russian ships get new starts

Icelandic owners have purchased four former Russian operated fishing vessels and Angus Sinclair of Stromness in Orkney has purchased the balance two out of the 6 Russian fishing trawlers sold to the westerners in the recent times. The facilities and equipments on the Russian fishing vessels are discussed.

The Overberg II, a 1994 German-built trawler, was purchased and fitted with a new factory by Overberg Fishing Company Proprietary Ltd. for the processing of monkfish. INMI built the new factory for Oberberg.

Twin-rig trawl equipment is being used by Kelly Anderson to catch shortspine and longspine thorneyheads, or idiot fish. The twin-rig trawling is being used off British Columbia and is new to the area.
