Excessive force

Article Abstract:

The case of Anthony Baez, killed in an illegal chokehold, has shown the problems that can arise in seeking to control police brutality in the US. It is common for officers to cover up for illegal behavior of their colleagues. The New York organization, Human Rights Watch, argues that police brutality is common throughout the US. Complaints tend not to be investigated by review boards, and when they are, they tend to be ignored by police chiefs. The author of a report by Human Rights Watch, Allyson Collins, argues that police departments should pay compensation so that they have an incentive to control brutality.

Jesus

Article Abstract:

There has been much speculation about the life of Jesus, but the details provided by the Gospels are sparse. They tell of a preacher who carried out miracles, was executed by the authorities, and left his tomb to go to heaven. Christianity came to be the largest religion world wide and the religion has inspired great works of art, as well as wars. The Millennium celebrates the birth of Jesus, though it is unclear when this happened. The Christian message relates to charity, humility and love, though many people describe themselves as Christian and break almost all the commandments.

Fixing it

Article Abstract:

There is concern that crime levels may have risen in 1998 and this problem could be tackled by tackling the related problem of drug addiction. A schemein Brighton, England, has used counsellor who were themselves often previously addicts, to talk to people who have been arrested. Crime and drug use have fallen in Brighton, though the scheme is not successful with all addicts. Similar schemes are being set up elsewhere in Britain, and investing in such schemes is worthwhile due to the cost of crime motivated by drug addiction.
