Executive search and selection: imperfect theory or intractable industry?

Article Abstract:

The executive search and selection industry was analyzed using the structure conduct performance (SCP) approach. The analysis shows that no professional organization regulates entry to the industry. Market concentration is very low and there are no price wars. Consumer loyalty is high and assignments are obtained through personal recommendations. Profit margins are also wider than in other services. The performance aspect was however difficult to analyze since the indicators used were not easily applicable to the services sector.

Modify or extend? The application of the structure conduct performance approach to service industries

Article Abstract:

The structure conduct performance methodology used by manufacturing industries to define market goals and assess implementation is applied to a typical service industry, executive search and selection. The application, however, suffers from the relative lack of ready information in the industry. Since surveys, which are the most popular means of gathering data, do not have a 100% response and accuracy rate, extrapolation methods would have to be devised to validate the usefulness of the approach.
