Export assistance: another look at whether we are supporting the best programmes

Article Abstract:

An empirical analysis of US and UK exporting companies is done to study the impact of trade policies on exporters. There exists differences in the way managers from the US and the UK rate the three attributes of their international marketing operations. The attributes include those desired by the importers, the possible improvements in performance by a shift in the emphasis of managers and the support required to export. Policy makers should think of ways to assist exporting firms in meeting their customers' needs.

Article Abstract:

Changing global market conditions transformed international trading intermediaries (ITI)'s orientation from purely export management activities to outright trading. A field investigation of 35 US ITIs documents how these firms adapted by diversifying the number of products they handle, maximizing the markets they serve and improving services. A prescription for industry practitioners and other areas for research are also outlined.

Korean importer perceptions of US and Japanese industrial goods exporters

Article Abstract:

Korean industrial importers are more favorably disposed to trading with Japanese exporters than with the Americans. In both the areas of product and exporter characteristic factors, American exporters lag behind their Japanese counterparts among Korean industrial importers. US exporters' weaknesses in cultural awareness, negotiation style and reputation account for the poor perception of Americans.
