Watts less is more

Article Abstract:

Some Hongkong residents are urging the territory's electric utilities to stop responding to rising demand by constructing new power stations and to focus on cutting demand through demand-side management. This approach teaches consumers how to lower or maintain the cost of electricity not by encouraging utilities to produce more but by using the existing level more efficiently. Economic incentives must exist to persuade consumers to use energy-efficient technology despite its initial high costs.
