FAA issues new security directives

Article Abstract:

The Federal Aviation Admnistration has issued new security directives to airports and air carriers with regard to verifying credentials of law enforcement officers carrying arms into secure airside areas of airports and aboard aircraft. The agency has ordered that airport and air carrier checks for officers carrying arms should be strictly enforced while waiting for the develeopment of counterfeit-proof credential. The move was made after the agency found from the Geneal Accounting Office that law enforcement credentials can easily be counterfeited using sources on the Internet.

Aviation wins frequency battle

Article Abstract:

The aviation industry has won its battle to protect radio frequency spectrum for sole aeronautical use at the International Telecommunications Union World Radio Conference 2000, held in Istanbul, Turkey. Previously, the industry was in danger of losing its exclusive use of radio frequency as it is being pressured to share at least some allocations with the growing mobile telecommunications industry.
