FRANCE: PHOTO SERVICE DEVELOPS INTERNET OFFER

Article Abstract:

Photo Service has presented a new photo processing service based on the Internet, where digital films are processed via the company's Web server. Finished products are available within one hour (from the shop), or two hours when delivered by a messenger (restricted to the Paris area). The new service, based on today's booming sales of digital cameras in France, also takes advantage of Photo Service's clientele profile. According to the company, 42% of its customers have a computer at home (23% on average in France) and three out of ten earn over FFr 20,000 a month (11% on average). Three out of ten holders of the company's loyalty card have an Internet access (five times more compared to the national average). Photo Service, part of the GrandVision turned over more than FFr 1.1bn in 1999. The company controls one quarter of the market of one-hour photo services, and 8.5% in photo processing in general (by volume). Active in shopping centres mainly, the network is making tests in town centres (a potential of around 10 such units is seen in France).
