FRANCE: VERTBAUDET UNVEILS AMBITIONS

Article Abstract:

Vertbaudet (Redcats group), which records strong growth rates in its English and Portuguese subsidiaries, makes 30% of its turnover of EUR 152.45mn (1999) outside of France. The French mail order group, dedicated to clothes for children up to the age of 12, will soon open further units in foreign countries, while its products are available in Scandinavia already. The group records an average expense per capita worth FFr 455, which falls to FFr 350 in its boutiques (sixth unit was opened recently in the Paris area, and the network targets 60-80 units in total in France by three to five years), but records a 30% increase on the Internet site. Vertbaudet wants to make one half of its turnover in boutiques within three to five years. The group points out that consumers who shop from both its boutiques and mail order catalogue, spend more than those who shop from only one of these two circuits.

FRANCE: C-MESCOURSES.COM AND FOOD SAFETY

Article Abstract:

French Internet food sites are placing a priority on the cold chain in the interests of food safety. C-mescourses.com has opted for a system of electronic chips in its delivery carts n order to make its cold chain management system more reliable. Thanks to this system, the Casino site is now able to follow the cold chain's tracks. At present, this system is being tested only on 20 insulated carts, but it could be extended to half of the carts by autumn 2001. The cost of an electronic chip represents between 10% and 15% of the price of an insulated container.
