Fare's fair? Passengers are faced with plethora of ticket prices

Article Abstract:

Eastern Asia's airlines, like their counterparts around the world, charge a wide variety of fares. These fares are determined by the complicated interplay of many factors. These factors include supply and demand, the subdividing of ticket classes into sub-classes, the efforts of yield-management specialists to maximize airlines' profits and competition between the travel agencies that control about 80% of ticket sales. The region's airlines, after long rejecting the idea of frequent-flyer programs, are now turning to them to attract customers to the most lucrative seats.
