Piggy suppliers

Article Abstract:

China's moves to control Hongkong's fresh food market may have been set back by a boycott staged by the city's pork merchants on Jun 11, 1992. The protest stemmed from the high prices set by a Chinese government representative and management of the privatized abbatoir in Kennedy Town. Pork merchants were also dissatisfied with the competitive advantage of the Chinese government's importing agent, leading to steadily rising prices and difficulties for other import representatives.

Shot by the mob

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong entertainment personalities have protested the involvement of crime syndicates in their industry. Known as triads, these syndicates intimidate actors and actresses into appearing in certain films and demand payment for filming on their gang's 'territories.' The police say they know of the triads' activities in the film industry but say people involved rarely complain and that some film companies have triad backgrounds themselves.
