Article Abstract:

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has had problems with its Mars Polar Lander, which does not appear to have survived its landing. Lack of funding has led to some problems at NASA, though design innovations were seen as a way of overcoming financial constraints. Planners are likely to reassess the relationship between risks and cost as a result of the failure, so more money may be spent on future projects involving probes on Mars.
