Federal excess: Sabahans feel exploited by central government

Article Abstract:

The Twenty Points drawn up in 1963 to govern the inclusion of Sabah in the Malaysian federation has been eroded by subtle amendments to the Malaysian Constitution made for the sake of national integration and standardization of laws. The more frequent complaints from Sabahans refer to the failure to comply with the decennial review of the Twenty Points, the refusal of the federal government to establish a university in Sabah and the predominance of peninsular Malaysians in the civil service. These and other issues have been a constant source of irritation for the federal government.
