Federal laboratories as research partners

Article Abstract:

The passage of the National Cooperative Research Act in 1984 resulted in the filing of almost 600 formal research joint ventures (RJVs) with the US Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission. Basing on this trend, various aspects of collaborative research behavior were examined although there is a need for an investigation of the composition of RJVs membership. A theoretical explanation that supports the belief that Federal laboratories exist more as research partners when there is greater membership in the RJVs was presented.

Cartel stability when costs are heterogeneous

Article Abstract:

The effects of the trigger strategy framework for cartel stability maintenance were explored focusing on implications of the differences in the marginal costs or inefficiency parameters of companies on the strategy. A model with linear market demand was used and a significant finding is that the effectiveness of the strategy in preventing deviation relies on the efficiencies of the loyalists and deviants.
