Fire breather

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong regional airline Dragonair is looking for strong growth. It plans to more than double its fleet to 21 aircraft by the end of the 1990s, and expects to have even greater opportunities for expansion in 2004, when Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong, which is due to begin operating in Apr 1998, is scheduled to open a second runway. It is particularly keen to establish a presence in China, where domestic air travel is expanding at around 20%. However, it will be necessary to reach new route agreements with the Chinese government.

Asia's high fliers

Article Abstract:

More liberal exchanges of air services rights and multilateral negotiation will help many industries throughout the Western Pacific region without appreciably hurting the airlines. Current policies focus too much on protecting national airlines, although many are among the strongest businesses in their countries. In Singapore, an open policy has resulted in enormous benefits and a thriving carrier. Passanger traffic in the region will grow about 7.7% annually through 2010, reaching 50% of world traffic.
