First deliveries of Unimog 6X6 Medium Recovery Vehicle

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler Australia/Pacific and Evans Deakin Engineering has delivered the first of 55 6X6 Medium Recovery Vehicles (MRV) to the Australian Army. The MRVs, purchased under Phase 4 of Project Land 52, were based on the Mercedes-Benz Unimog 2450L 6X6 cab-chassis. The vehicles, designed to recover 4X4 and 6X6 Perentie general service vehicles, will be the replacement of the Army's International F1 'Twin Boom' wreckers.

Australia confirms AEWAC buy

Article Abstract:

Boeing Co has been awarded a $1.65-billion contract to provide the Royal Australian Air Force's needs for airborne early warning and control (AEWAC) aircraft under Project Wedgetail, Air 5077. The contract calls for the supply of four AEWAC aircraft, an Operational Flight Trainer, Operational Mission Simulator, related support equipment and logistics support, with an option for a further three aircraft later. Boeing's AEWAC system is built around its 737 commercial jet airliner.

Acoustic mine imaging trials for RAN

Article Abstract:

Thomson Marconi Sonar has received a $4.7-million contract for the development of an operational prototype of its Acoustic Mine Imaging (AMI) system. The Royal Australian Navy will trial the AMI prototype system on its new Huon-class coastal minehunters in 2002. Under Project Sea 1432, the AMI was developed to meet the needs for a special sonar and data processing system to produce high definition images of mines in low- visibility waters.
