Vodafone sends $45 billion message to wireless industry

Article Abstract:

Vodafone Group PLC has made a bid of more than $45 billion to acquire AirTouch Communications Inc. The offer represents a serious threat to Bell Atlantic's merger negotiations with AirTouch. If the deal pushes through, it would be a major leap towards creating the first intercontinental mobile-phone provider to offer lower roaming fees. Both Vodafone and AirTouch operate in sectors that have over 40 million customers all over the world.
