More than 40 boats poaching toothfish - colto

Article Abstract:

The illegal fishing of toothfish catch estimated at 25,600 tons in 2001 - 02 and more than 40 vessels involved in the activity are identified. The Coalition of Legal Toothfish Operators is an organization involved in controlling illegal activities, the organization's services and the statistics on the illegal fishing activities are discussed.

Oli Jacobsen, chairman of Faroe Islands based fishermen's association, Foroya Fiskimannafelag, is of the opinion that the prices of all types of fishes except the cod have come down. Jacobsen also discusses the effect it has on the industry.
