For day traders, German index is overnight sensation

Article Abstract:

Though the trend in buying and selling securities online has declined since its heyday in the late 1990s, day traders feel they have found a new mecca for making quick profits from buying and selling stocks on the Eurex, a new electronic exchange based in Frankfurt, Germany. Traders around the world are now wagering on the DAX, an index of German blue-chip stocks that offers rapid price swings, hours suited to nighttime trading, and low account-minimum requirements.

Drug stocks wait in wings

Article Abstract:

Securities analysts are beginning to promote investment in the pharmaceutical industry regardless of the fact that the industry is currently facing poor prospects for growth due to such factors as a lag in drug development and the gaining strength of generic drugs. Price/earnings multiples at many pharmaceutical companies are similar to the ratios for companies with lower growth potentials, they argue, making pharmaceutical investments worth the risk.

Buybacks aid Europe's stocks

Article Abstract:

European companies are increasingly buying back their own shares instead of investing in the market. Though such activity used to be viewed by investors as a sign that a company lacked an acquisition strategy, it is now seen as a solid decision regarding corporate cash flows. European buyback yield has more than doubled for 2004 so far.
