For rent

Article Abstract:

There has been an increase in demand for computer services outsourcing, and a new type of outsourcing may also develop with the internet, similar to a utility providing processing capacity, data storage and the like. The newer type of outsourcing is cheaper and available to all businesses. Companies providing enterprise resource planning (ERP) include PeopleSoft, an established firm, and new entrant, Employease. Methods of payment have yet to be standardized, and units could be metered, or a monthly fee charged.

Article Abstract:

The cost of computer viruses was estimated at $12.1 billion world wide in 1999, according to consultant, Computer Economics. Disconnection from the internet to deal with hackers is becoming more expensive, and new methods are needed of tackling the problem. The surveillance society

Article Abstract:

New technology brings benefits and an erosion of privacy. Government and private sector databases have greatly increased the amount of information held on individuals. Data can be more easily collected, stored, analyzed and retrieved as a result of computer technology. Data may be kept on employees' e-mails, phone calls and other activities. New technology has brought a number of benefits, and the erosion of privacy is likely to continue unless these benefits are sacrificed.
