Foreign companies feel credit crunch just as China prepares to loosen policy

Article Abstract:

Foreign firms operating in China are starting to feel the impact of the Chinese government's tight credit policies. Chinese officials decided to clamp down on credit in 1993 in an effort to cool down the country's overheating economy. The effort succeeded in bringing down inflation but it also resulted in sluggish demand, production declines and increased debt. The Chinese government has announced plans to relax its credit policies.

Castro's China visit can't mask the gap between 2 nations

Article Abstract:

The visit to China made by Cuban Pres. Fidel Castro does little to improve the gap between the two communist countries. China can do little for Cuba unless Castro opens his country's economy more. The three agreements signed with Cuba indicated that barter trade would be replaced by using cash. This puts Cuba to a disadvantage as Cuba due to its poor foreign exchange situation.
