Thailand adopts measures in effort to trim deficit

Article Abstract:

The Thai government has announced several measures to address the country's growing economic problems. Among the proposals approved by Prime Minister Banharn Silpa-Archa are lower tax rates for raw materials used by exporters and tax incentives to encourage the growth of domestic shipping. The government has also waived the 15% withholding tax on interest income from bank deposits not exceeding 600,000 baht.

Prime minister decides to 'buy Thai' in hopes of setting a good example

Article Abstract:

Thailand prime minister Banharn Silpa-archa has stated that he will implement the government's 'buy Thai' policy by setting up a good example to his colleagues and subordinates. The minister plans to dispose his collection of imported apparel and liquor. Moreover, a committee was formed to develop a program regarding the policy. The move was made to reduce the trade deficit being experienced by the country.
