France Telecom seeks 2 million investors

Article Abstract:

France Telecom is hoping to raise up to $8.9 billion through an Initial Public Offer (IPO) which could attract 2 million investors. The IPO will begin on May 27, 1997, and end on Jun 3, 1997. It is hoped to ensure maximum public participation in the offer by running a share reservation scheme. This will allow potential purchasers to apply for shares during the three weeks before the offer opens. Other privatisation plans in France include the sale of a 58% stake in defence electronics concern Thomson-CSF and a reduction of the government's stake in computer concern Bull.
