Fund raising in the Southwest

Article Abstract:

In the UK's southwest region, businesses seeking funding will find that the sources available to them are similar to those in the rest of the country. Venture investment companies, such as NatWest Ventures and 3i, are leading players in the local market. The financial centres of Bristol and Cardiff are well-served by most of the major clearing banks, which offer attractive financial packages in a competitive environment. An example of a local company seeking local funding is that of plastics maker IPT, which was the subject of a 36 million pounds sterling management buyout.

A busy year for Scottish PLCs

Article Abstract:

There have been many acquisitions and disposals among Scottish PLCs over recent months. This in turn gave a considerable boost to corporate finance companies. Most merger and acquisition activity has been undertaken in order to consolidate strategic positions, especially within core operations. There have been many good quality private companies for sale in Scotland, and this has served to boost the increase in merger and acquisition deals. Scottish PLCs have also been taken advantage of opportunities abroad.

Private company prices may start to fall

Article Abstract:

Prices of private companies may start to fall, following a slight fall in the number of reported deals from 1994 to 1995. 1995 however was a good yer for smaller company M&A, bringing owner-managers into the marketplace. Private company prices could rise if widespread economic confidence returns.
