Furniture and furnishings in Germany

Article Abstract:

Production of furniture in Germany during 1994 totalled 42.7 billion German marks, with West German production reaching 40.1 billion German marks and East German output standing at around 2.6 billion German marks. Furniture imports for the year totalled 10.6 billion German marks, while exports rose by around 3% to 5.9 billion German marks. Production of furnishings and home textiles was down 3.8% in 1994 to 7.06 billion German marks. In the retail sector, specialist furniture shops increased sales by around 4% to some 44.91 billion German marks, with large, specialist stores continuing to gain market share at the expense of full-range stores.

Furniture and furnishings in Belgium

Article Abstract:

Consumption and manufacture of furniture in Belgium fell in 1995, with a greater decline suggested in 1996. Sales of furniture totalled BFr83.5 billion in 1995, with wooden and upholstered furniture accounting for some 90% of the market. Manufacture and domestic sales of carpets and home furnishings rose during 1995, but the outlook is not optimistic. Belgium is the largest exporter of carpets in the world, with 94% of output going overseas. An analysis of the Belgian furniture and home furnishings market is presented.

Furniture and furnishings in France

Article Abstract:

Furniture output in France rose slightly in 1995, following two years of decline. Domestic expenditure on furniture amounted to FFr67.5 billion in 1995. France is the European Union's third largest maker of furniture behind Germany and Italy, with a total turnover estimated to be FFr52.8 billion in 1995. Home furnishings production fell in 1995, as did expenditure. An analysis of the French furniture, home furnishings and DIY markets is presented.
