GM declares no victories yet: despite a modest profit, North America operations still drain auto maker

Article Abstract:

Despite bringing in $207 billion last year, General Motors Corp. is still struggling financially due to problems with its North American automobile plants. In an interview, Vice Chairman Frederick Henderson said that the company must cut its U.S. employee health care costs in order to restore profitability.

Chrysler gains edge by giving new flexibility to its factories

Chrysler Corp. of the United States has redesigned its manufacturing lines so that it can produce more than one type of vehicle at a manufacturing plant and the new system uses more robots. The automobile company is betting the new technology will rack up in greater revenue.
