E.ON unit's deputy chief quits amid complaints he misled media

Otto Majewski, the deputy chairman and chief financial officer of E.ON Energie AG, is resigning from his posts. Majewski is leaving after complaints arose about his alleged misleading of the media about the company's negotiations with a British firm.

VW threat underscores Eruope's woes

Article Abstract:

European auto makers are experiencing pressure from high labor costs and increased competition from Japanese and Korean companies whose presense in the European market used to be limited by a complex quota system. Volkswagen AG, along with such other companies as Renault, DaimlerChrysler AG, and Peugeot-Citroen SA, have lost market share in passenger vehicles and are aiming to restructure as a way to cope. Volkswagen AG is threatening to cut 30,000 jobs if negotiations for a wage freeze and other concessions fail to gain approval from its employees.

German auto maker drives hard bargain with unions: DaimlerChrysler threatens to eliminate 6,000 jobs if costs aren't cut further

DaimlerChrysler AG plans to shift production away from its Stuttgart base and cut 6,000 jobs unless employees accept euro 500 million in proposed cost savings. Among the disputed issues is employee break times.
