EU panel may intensify probe into Holzmann Plan

The European Commission is investigating the German government plan to bail out the construction company Phillipp Holzmann AG. The commission is not convinced that Holzmann is in need of aid and believes that the company's job cuts were not sufficient.

Germany ceases state aid to its public sector banks

Article Abstract:

This article describes the plan of the German government to abolish two programs which guaranteed public-sector banks from insolvency, boosting their credit and giving them an advantage over private banks. The programs, which will cease by July 18, 2005, were opposed strongly buy the European Commission, and their demise is considered an important moral victory for the private sector.
