Article Abstract:

Canadian Internet services firm Critical Mass Inc has received a 50% equity investment by US advertising giant Omnicom Group Inc. Critical Mass has created online marketing sites for leading US and Canadian corporations. The new entity resulting from the deal between the two firms is expected to combine their skills in relationship and online marketing. Among Critical Mass' major online relationship campaign contracts include Mercedes-Benz USA and a collaboration with Rapp Collins to build a direct- to-consumer e-commerce beauty products site for P&G's Reflect.com.

Alberta election ads dwarfed issues

Article Abstract:

The use of advertising during the elections in Alberta is credited for creating a more interesting atmosphere in the province. Advertisements by the Opposition Liberals, which resulted in rounds of name-calling, are said to have pushed the issues out of the limelight early in the race. However, marketing exec Andy Feher believes that the aggressive tactics employed by the Liberals, as opposed to the understated campaign ran by the Conservatives, could have caused a backlash among the voting population.

Small shops rope in Rodeo awards

Article Abstract:

A number of small Canadian advertising agencies won the top awards at the Calgary Ad Rodeo which was held on Mar 24, 2000. Propeller won best of show honors for its public service ad "Thrown Away." The ad firms which wons the most awards were Highland Communications with eight Anvils and Inhouse with six. Highwood's awards were ads for various clients including best newspaper and magazine single. Inhouse's awards were for newspaper and TV campaigns for Shaw Communications.
