Chocs away for Russia's first tender offer

Article Abstract:

The proposed acquisition of Russian candy maker Red October by Koloss, a member of the Menatep group, has ended in a compromise. Instead of a formal takeover, Menatep will take two seats on Red October's board and the two companies will undertake joint acquisitions of other chocolate manufacturers. Menatep will spend the $30 million it had earmarked for the acquisition on these joint projects. It is thought that the failed acquisition will lead to new takeover rules in Russia.

Goldman Sachs Tops European M&A in 1995 Q3

Article Abstract:

Goldman Sachs was the top M&A advisory house in the third quarter of 1995 according to IFR Securities Data Corp. It has advised Upjohn on its merger with Pharmacia, Eastern Group of the UK on its takeover by Hanson, South Western Electricity over the bid by Southern, and PowerGen on its bid for Midlands Electricity of the UK. The UK electricity sector was the busiest sector.
