Environmental Digital Services Inc (EDSI) has established an industry niche as an environmental remediation product and service company for over a decade. The company's plans to establish global operations received a major boost with its inclusion in a trade mission to Central America organized by the Commerce Dept. EDSI recently formed a strategic alliance with WaterChef Inc for the distribution of the company's self-contained water purification systems.

Slow growth or no growth

Airports in the western US are cutting back on their plans to expand their cargo services due to the continuing effect of the Asian economic crisis. Likewise, they provide struggling air carriers assistance in order to maintain their Asia-based trans-Pacific services. During the 1st qtrof 1998, Asia-bound cargo declined by 18%. In addition, export trade to traditional growth markets that include Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand declined an average of 18%

NAFTA shipping still negotiating the curves

Article Abstract:

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has boosted trade between the US, Canada and Mexico, but cross-border movement remains a more complicated issue than need be. For example, the Clinton administration has proposed taxing trucks cross the US-Canada border to help pay for the modernization of the US Customs' computer system. Canada is opposing the proposal as a gross violation of NAFTA.
