Governments may be top threat to Coke; regulators increasingly balk at company plans

Article Abstract:

Coca-Cola Co. is facing increased restrictions from foreign governments in its attempts to acquire other soft drink companies. Tme most recent instance comes from Australia, where regulators failed to approve the acquisition of Cadbury Schweppes PLC. Coke's efforts in France to acuire Orangina have also been thwarted. In spite of legal resistance, analysts predict that the Cadbury Schweppes deal will eventually be completed.

Coca-Cola bottler hit by EU raids in U.K., Belgium

This article discusses the investigation being conducted by the European Commission of the alleged violations of antitrust regulations by Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. Officials raided the offices of the bottling company in the United Kingdom and Belgium, responding to complaints that Coca-Cola Enterprises had offered rebates to retailers in Austria, Germany and Denmark who would agree not to sell other brands of beverages.
