Greek banks, National and Alpha, hold merger talks

Article Abstract:

National Bank and Alpha Bank announced that they were negotiating to create Greece's biggest bank with a Euro9.75 billion all-share merger. The merged bank would immediately become the dominant player of the euro zone and would be in a position to take a large regional role in the Balkans.

Greek bank merger is likely to spur sector consolidation

Alpha Bank's planned merger with National Bank of Greece is expected to bring about more consolidation within the banking sector. The merger of Greece's two largest banks, in terms of capital and assets, is valued at 9.75 billion euros.

National Bank of Greece to buy 90% of UBB

The National Bank of Greece has reached an agreement to purchase the United Bulgarian Bank. UBB will be acquired for between 200 million euros and 250 million euros.
