Military recruiters face a tough sell in job-rich U.S

Article Abstract:

Recruiters for the US armed forces blame the good economy and plentiful 1999 job market for the difficulty in filling their quotas. Also, some schools have cut recruiters' access to prospective graduates, and the number of seniors planning to attend college has increased from 50% to 80%. An Air recruiting sergeant experiences fatigue as subjects he worked hard to recruit change their minds.

Major Peter Kilner a West Point professor is urging military personnel to dialogue about the morality of killing in wars and the guilt that comes with breaking the Christian ethic, a long-taboo subject in the United States Army. Mr. Kilner has written extensively on the subject.
