Green award for a deep-plan and air-conditioned office

The new air-conditioned, deep-plan Lakeside office block in Milton Keynes, UK, has been given a BREEAM environmental award. The building, designed by Ian C King Architects for Landframe Properties, is highly transparent with a strong hovering roof plane. The square plan shape gives the building very low heat loss, with a low average U-value achieved via the insulated roof-to-glass ratio. The ceiling is intersected by a curtain wall which incorporates argon-filled double glazing and solar-control, low emissivity glass.
